Warm Weather Effects By: Kelly Feehan, Extension Educator March 4, 2024

Record setting warm winter temperatures are enjoyable for humans but lead to plant problems. Some are harmful to plants and others are not as harmful in the long run.

One of the most harmful is dessication, especially in evergreen plants like Arborvitae and boxwood. When conditions are warm and windy, green leafy tissue like needles lose more moisture through transpiration. If soils are dry or cold, roots are not taking up moisture and tissues dry out.

Quilt of Valor

On Sunday, January 28th, 2024, the Colfax County 4-H Council held their annual Volunteer Banquet at the St. Benedict Center near Schuyler. During the banquet a very special presentation was made. A Quilt of Valor, sewn by Colfax County 4-H members was presented to a Colfax County Veteran. A Quilt of Valor is a quilt sewn of Americana fabric and donated to service members to welcome them home. As part of the Quilt of Valor Foundation, a not for profit foundation of volunteer quilters, the quilt presented was created by Colfax County 4-H members as a service project.
